Crowd Gets its Rear in Gear at Carrier Park!
Nearly 400 runners and walkers came out to Carrier Park for the annual Get Your Rear in Gear Asheville 5K on the beautiful spring morning of March 30. We brought in more than $8000, with proceeds benefitting the WNC Colorectal Cancer Screening Initiative. The proceeds will provide colon cancer screening for underinsured residents of western North Carolina.
Big hits of the day were the giant inflatable walk-through colon and the Planters Peanuts Nutmobile, accompanied by Mr. Peanut himself! Noah Wiese and Kristen Ripmaster were the top overall male and female runners. Follow this link to see the results.
Eleven colon cancer survivors were there with their families and friends to feel the support of the greater community. In addition to countless individual runners, we had 17 teams at the race. The Everything Cookies Team was the top fundraising team, raising over $2000!
Many thanks to our generous community sponsors who helped make the race possible through monetary and in-kind donations. Special thanks to everyone in the community who volunteered their time to make this race successful and fun! To get a real feel for the day, enjoy looking through the photos from the race, compliments of Anglin Photography and Mobley Photography.
